TIStructE election and EngTech registration

Distinguish the membership decision from Engineering Council registration.

LEARNING GUIDE

Use this material to examine your own work. Confirm current requirements, forms and dates with IStructE before applying.

Distinguish the membership decision from Engineering Council registration.

Read the formal outcome

Successful assessment supports election to Technician Membership. Follow the institution’s notification for effective status and use of TIStructE. Assessment recommendation and completed election can be separate steps. Wait for formal confirmation before describing yourself as elected.

Membership and registration

TIStructE is a membership designation. EngTech is an Engineering Council title. The Technician membership page lists registration as optional, with separate fees. Confirm whether you requested it and what remains to complete. Successful assessment does not by itself establish that you are already registered.

If you hold EngTech through another institution, ask IStructE how that position is handled. Retain the response so register details, subscriptions and professional descriptions remain accurate.

After the outcome

  1. 01

    Confirm status

Retain election and registration notifications and check details.

  2. 02

    Update descriptions

Use only confirmed designations in profiles and signatures.

  3. 03

    Maintain obligations

Read current conduct, subscription and CPD instructions.

  4. 04

    Continue development

Review needs arising from responsibilities. Qualification does not remove technical competence limits.

Illustrative setting: updating a profile

THIN ACCOUNT

I passed, so I can add every title.

MORE USEFUL ACCOUNT

I checked election confirmation before adding TIStructE, established the separate EngTech position and updated my profile to show only formally granted status.

Professional descriptions should agree with membership and register records.

Questions to ask yourself

  1. What is formally confirmed?

Distinguish application, assessment, election and registration.

  2. Which obligations apply?

    Check current instructions.

  3. What still needs other expertise?

Qualification does not establish competence in every task.

Further development

Use the CPD guide after election. Explore any later grade as a separate academic, IPD and assessment route. Avoid assuming automatic transfer or treating Technician evidence as a completed higher-grade assessment.
