Relate another accredited scheme’s records to Technician Core Objectives.
What the arrangement allows
The Technician guidance permits relevant structural engineering records from schemes accredited by other bodies, such as ICE or HKIE. IStructE does not accredit company schemes itself. You still need the IStructE final forms, full training records and portfolio showing its Technician objectives.
Make a cross-reference
- 01
Identify the scheme
Record its accrediting body, grade and training history. Keep actual sign-offs.
- 02
Read Technician requirements
Similar headings do not establish equivalent coverage. Compare the required standards.
- 03
Find structural examples
Explain the work and contribution behind a drawing, check or inspection.
- 04
Close gaps
Plan experience where the original scheme did not provide it.
Engineering example
Illustrative setting: mapping civil training
My ICE records cover the objectives automatically.
I compared each Technician objective with the structural task in my record. Inspection evidence was useful, but concept understanding was weak. I arranged a discussion of the design basis behind a detail I had produced.
The comparison identifies evidence and gaps without treating one institution’s sign-off as another’s assessment.
Present the source honestly
Reference original entries and identify the standards used at the time. Explain how relevant work supports current Technician requirements. Do not relabel older records as though they were produced under a different objective set.
Signed training records belong in the complete application under the current guidance. Ask IStructE about incomplete records, restricted access or mixed scheme histories before applying. Keep the clarification.
Record review
For personal preparation. Ticking these checks does not confirm competence or eligibility.
