ICE / Attributes and evidence

The reviewer lens

Understand what reviewers need to establish from your written and spoken evidence.

LEARNING GUIDE

Use this material to examine your own work. Confirm current requirements, forms and dates with ICE before applying.

Reviewers assess your competence using the report you submitted and what you say about your work. Clear writing helps, but the account must give them evidence on which to make that judgement.

Using the review questions

Each question concerns something a reviewer needs to establish. Your report may answer it or provide a starting point for discussion at interview.

Use the questions to check a draft written from your own work. ICE asks for a narrative from role activities, so avoid structuring the report as a sequence of answers to a checklist.

Each question also identifies limits to the advice. Improving clarity must not lead you to claim responsibility you did not hold. Keep the account accurate even where your experience is limited.

Sources of the advice

The guidance distinguishes three sources:

  1. Published ICE requirements, including the attributes and the purpose of the report and review. Quotations identify the edition and date.
  2. General competence-assessment practice, such as checking whether evidence is the candidate's own, is current and can be explained under questioning.
  3. The Forum’s interpretation of how those requirements relate to writing and answering. This advice is labelled and open to discussion.
