Use this material to examine your own work. Confirm current requirements, forms and dates with ICE before applying.
ICE emails your result within six weeks of the review. A pass means both reviewers were satisfied on the day that you met every attribute area.
After a successful review
You register as IEng MICE or CEng MICE. A successful CPR or CIPR with ICE also carries the title Chartered Civil Engineer or Chartered Infrastructure Engineer.
Continue planning, undertaking and recording CPD in your area of practice. ICE's expectation of around 30 hours of effective learning a year continues after registration.
Consider supporting other engineers through sponsorship, mentoring, an SCE role or, later, reviewing. Engagement with ICE activities remains part of professional commitment.
Preparing after an unsuccessful review
Give yourself time to read the comments carefully. Reading them again a week later may help you identify the actions needed. Discuss them with your lead sponsor and ICE staff who can help with preparation.
Separate gaps in experience from gaps in explanation. Missing experience needs development work; existing evidence omitted from the report needs clearer writing; evidence you struggled to explain on the day needs practice. Ask what the reviewers identified and how you can address it before deciding on a re-sit.
Questions to ask yourself
- Is this comment about missing experience, invisible evidence, or the day itself?
The three need completely different responses, and the comments usually say which if you read them with that question in mind.
- What did they see that I did not?
A more productive starting point than deciding they misunderstood you. Sometimes they did, but far more often the comment identifies something a sponsor could have spotted earlier.
- Have I discussed this with my lead sponsor?
ICE expects it, and it is much harder to classify your own failure honestly than someone else's.
