Use this material to examine your own work. Confirm current requirements, forms and dates with ICE before applying.

The Chartered Professional Review Progressive assesses the additional Chartered requirements for engineers who are already IEng MICE. Your existing registration provides evidence of the requirements you have already met.

The route has two parts, and they are separate.

First, your IPD has to be topped up to Chartered level. If you completed a Training Agreement at Incorporated level, that agreement can simply be extended or reactivated using the transfer form, and ICE's Training Scheme guidance is explicit that no additional fee is payable when an agreement is transferred or reactivated for CPRP or CIPRP. Only the attribute levels between your previous completion and the new one need to be documented and achieved. If you completed IPD another way, or have been working since without a scheme, the Career Appraisal can be used as the top-up instead.

Second, you sit a Chartered Professional Review Progressive. It is a Chartered review: the same presentation, interview and Communication Task, with the Chartered timings and the Chartered Communication Task format.

Assessment scope

The progressive route assesses the "And …" clauses together with professional commitment. Read them together to understand the additional requirements.

How to approach it

  1. 01

    Check the educational base first

The Incorporated educational base is not automatically the Chartered one. Resolve this before anything else: Further Learning, an Academic Assessment or the Technical Report Route may be needed, and each takes time.

  2. 02

Decide how you will top up your IPD

If you completed a Training Agreement, ask your SCE about extending or reactivating it with the transfer form. If not, a Career Appraisal top-up report of up to 3,000 words is the usual route.

  3. 03

Choose work from since your IPR

It is far easier to evidence the Chartered clauses from recent work where you held greater responsibility than to re-argue your Incorporated projects at a higher level. Reviewers can usually tell which you have done.

  4. 04

Do not re-evidence what you already hold

Your Incorporated registration establishes the base. Spending 3,000 words re-proving it wastes the space in which you were supposed to show leadership, definition and holistic judgement.

  5. 05

    Prepare for a Chartered review

The Communication Task at CPRP is the Chartered format: 90 minutes, two scenarios each with a response format, one answered. Not the Incorporated one you may have sat before.
